And it shows the importance of turning to the actual sources instead of taking the words of men that "seem" educated. Many do the same even outside the watchtower. I am with TOTH. I think they would be obvious, easy targets for people. I'm sure they keep a very low profile because of what a lot of hurt people might be willing to do to them.

A Popular Question Raised by people who were never JW.

i talk to a lot of people about the watchtower because it comes up in conversation all of the time.. money eventually becomes a topic as it is a very wealthy corporation.. so the question is always raised and it is a good one, "who controls it?".

people want to know "who has the power of the purse strings?

" and quite frankly so do i.. there is someone behind the scenes who knows so much that the wtbts could never fire him or her.

I said this before on a different post that the Governing Body are the ones with the purse strings. They all DO have credit cards with unlimited credit lines. (Or so my old friend who was an assistant to Anthony Morris told me). I have seen them drive extremely fancy cars, and they obviously travel the world for talks and branch visits. They live very wealthy lives and are not vowed to poverty like all the other bethellites are.

What I don't understand is how they can live like they do and feel ok about it. They are living on the donated money of people living extremely poor lives without higher education. But maybe they think that it is a blessing from Jehovah? Who knows how they sleep at night.

to honor the son is to honor the father.. i am a practicing jw who i believe is of the heavenly calling.

this post is not to criticize wts but to open honest discussion among mature followers of christ.. there has been much controversy around the wts doctrine regarding the arch angel michael.

as many are aware, wts believe that jesus in his pre-human existence was michael , gods first born.

Free Thought, GOrwell has it totally right. There is a single scripture that completely derails the entire argument that the WT has on Jesus being Michael the Archangel.

An Archangel is obviously a "kind" of angel. We know about a couple "kinds" of angels. There are the Cherubim, the Saraphim, and the Archangel. They are all angels.

In the first century, the gnostics were arguing that Jesus was an angel. So Paul countered this with his opening to Hebrews. Read Hebrews 1:3-8.

It says: The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.

5 For to which of the angels did God ever say,

“You are my Son;
today I have become your Father”?

Or again,

“I will be his Father,
and he will be my Son”?

6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,

“Let all God’s angels worship him.”

7 In speaking of the angels he says,

“He makes his angels spirits,
and his servants flames of fire.”

8 But about the Son he says,

“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.

I think that sums up the entire matter. God never called ANY angel His Son. He clearly makes a distinction about the superiority of Jesus to the Angels to the point that the Angels were to WORSHIP Jesus. (Just as we are to worship Him now).

And finally, God the Father even calls His Son "God" in verse 8. If the Father calls Jesus "God", then we can do the same today.

Why I Hate Religion

i know this is a few months old.

but i think it's profound to people that still think like the wt trained them to think.

even after coming out of the wt, they still feel that all christians believe that they alone have the true religion or denomination.

Sweet Baby Cheesits: You switched the quotes from Brother Dan and applied them to me. Namely the part about being from Arizona. No big deal. If you want to keep calling me Brother Dan, that is fine. Maybe we will meet someday and I will prove it to you. Whatever. No biggie.

That's not true at all. Darkness is defined in Christianity as lack of understanding or unwillingness to understand the things of God. That is why Jesus told us that we are to be like a city on a hill. We let our light shine (our understanding of him). Yes, good works go a long way in letting light shine, however. But when Jesus and Paul talk about Light vs Darkness, they are talking about those that understand and are willing to submit to Jesus, and those that are not. See Romans 1 for Pauls talk about those that refuse to believe in God even though it has been made obvious to them that He exists. I find it interesting, because those that don't believe in God get really viscious and insulting. Almost as if they feel like they have to be insulting to quelch their own feelings. Just my opinion.

Also, this Brother dan seems to have made an impact. Like I said, I really don't mind if you think we are the same. It's funny to me.

And how exactly did a true christian find out about jesus if not thru "men"?

This is a very basic tenant of Christianity. Men do not bring people to Jesus. In fact Jesus said that it was not necessary for MEN to teach us anything. 1John 2:27 says: "As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit--just as it has taught you, remain in him."

It is the Holy Spirit that does the calling and it is the Holy Spirit that is our teacher. That is why, when after accepting Jesus as your Lord, that the Bible takes on new meaning. It is impossible for those in darkness to understand the light. But when you come out of darkness in accepting Jesus as your personal savior then the Holy Spirit Himself begins to teach you.

Come to me, .. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; ..
Mat 11:28-29

However when the Spirit of truth comes,
he will guide you into all truth.
.. and he will show you things to come. John 16:13-14

But the Comforter, who is the Holy Spirit
and whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you all things. John 14:26

Also, I mean to use the word "true" in this way: Only that there are those that claim to be Christians, but by their actions (i.e. atrocities done in the name of Christ) they show that they are not following Christ at all. It is not up to me or anyone else to decide who is a "true" Chrisian and who is not. Fortunately that is in God's hands and not mine. We can, however, be discerning and realize that just calling yourself a Christian does not actually make you one.
